Special Instruments

These are the instruments that are hard to categorise. Some are existing ones, some are the result of my own grey matter doing what it likes doing best.

Sympathetic string thing

By lack of a better name for this combination of a Sarod, Morin-Khuur and a Sarangi. It has three playing strings (tuned to C3-G-c4) and seven sympathetic strings. The sympathetic strings can be tuned to the scale you play in, creating different overtones on every note of the scale you play. It has an arched top, which aids the top in standing up to the pressure all those strings put on it. and it looks nice ofcourse.

This is a working prototype and not for sale, I can make you one if you want though!

The construction on this instrument is in it’s essence a hollowed out piece of Linden with a spruce soundboard on top. I can also make this instrument in a more violin-like building style by making the sides of thin strips of bent wood, resulting in a lighter instrument.

Whatever method you may choose, it will get a Ash soundboard instead of spruce, as the spruce has a tendency to kind of “cave in” under the immense pressure the 10 strings put down on it.

I can put a set of Sarangi gut strings on it, for a louder more focussed sound. But I can also equip it with a set of Morin-Khuur style strings, for a more quiet and raspy suound.

Price for the hollowed out block construction is around €1050.

The violin-style construction is a bit more labour intensive and will be around €1200.
